Beside Me...

As I lie here in the silent darkness, beside your sleeping form,
Holding your hand in slumber, your nearness keeps me warm;
Your gentle breathing soothes me, my soul finds itself at peace,
The rhythm of your beating heart, makes all my troubles cease.

Your scent is intoxicating, and the softness of your skin divine,
My lips graze across your shoulder, as I stroke your hair so fine;
I whisper in your ear those words, I know you need most to hear,
I love you so much my darling, and I will always want you near.

You turn toward me in your sleep, and I enfold you in my arms,
A kiss on the forehead, a promise to protect you from all harms;
I brush away the strands of hair, fallen across your face in streams,
And my heart speaks to yours, to have the sweetest of all dreams.

I say to myself a silent prayer, and thank the Maker of this day,
That He has brought us together, to love each other in every way;
To share our lives with one another, to find happiness and love,
Beneath the nurturing sun by day, and by night the stars above.

So as I lie here in the quiet darkness, beside your sleeping form,
Holding your hand in slumber, your nearness keeping me warm;
I could ask for nothing more, as there is little more for me to pray,
Except you each night beside me, just like this, forever and a day.

    I Love You, Susan
